Belgium Theory driving tests

You can take the theory test at any recognized test center in Belgium and make an appointment through the website of the relevant driving test operator:

  • Brussels: ACT or La Sécurité Automobile
  • Flanders: GOCA Vlaanderen
  • Wallonia: Autosécurité

The test consists of 50 questions, with 45 testing minor traffic offenses, each carrying one point. The test duration is 30 minutes. The remaining five questions are about serious traffic violations, each with five points. To pass the test, you must score 41 out of 50 points. In addition, the test center will perform a simple reading test to check your eyesight.

Theory Test Pattern:

Expenditure or Total Cost For Test

The test costs €18 in Brussels, €16 in Flanders, and €15 in Wallonia. You can take the test in Dutch, French, or German, depending on your region. Alternatively, you can request a translator for an additional charge of €50 to €55. However, there are some restrictions. For instance, Flanders and Wallonia allow translators for English or one of the official Belgian languages (Dutch, French, and German). On the other hand, Brussels has banned translators and instead offers pre-recorded translated tests in commonly spoken languages.

In Belgium, when you want to take the driving test to get your license, you have to be at least 18 years old. You must also have passed the written test in the last three years. To book a spot for the driving test, you can go to the test center’s website in your area. Or, if you have a driving school, they can set up an appointment at a recognized test center.

Practical driving tests in Belgium are essential, but there are some rules to follow. You have to be at least 18 years old and pass the theory test within the last three years to take the practical test. You can book a test online through the test operator’s website or have your driving school.

The practical test has two parts. First, there’s a risk perception test on a computer. This is part of the road test in some regions, while you do it separately in others. In Brussels, you must also take first-aid training before the road test.

In the risk perception test, you watch videos of different traffic situations and need to spot risks. You must get at least six out of ten right to pass. The test costs around €15 or may be included in the total cost of the practical test, which is about €43.

The road test itself lasts about 40 minutes and includes some questions. You can use your car, but the examiner and possibly a translator (if needed) must be there, too.

During the road test, you drive independently for 10-15 minutes, following directions or a GPS. It would be best to do things like parallel parking or reversing. The road test cost varies by region but is around €40 to €43.

If you fail either test, you can’t try again on the same day. If you fail twice, you must make a new appointment, pay the fee again, and take lessons.
